About Dog Show
The Texas 4-H Dog Show specifically focuses on dog-related activities and competitions involving 4-H members and their dogs. Participants may compete in various categories, such as obedience, showmanship, rally, and more, depending on the specific rules and events organized by the Texas 4-H program.
Knowledge and Skills Gained
- Public Speaking and Presentation – Learn to talk to judges, peers and other public figures,.
- Goal Setting: Participants set goals for themselves and their dogs, such as achieving specific training milestones or earning awards in different categories. This encourages goal-setting and planning skills.
- Sportsmanship – Competing in dog shows provides an opportunity to learn about good sportsmanship.
Participants learn how to handle both victories and defeats graciously and respectfully. - Life Skills – Beyond the specifics of dog care and training, participants develop life skills such as patience, discipline, perseverance, and empathy through their experiences with their canine companions
Participation:
- The Texas 4-H Dog Show is open to youth who are 8 years old and in the 3rd grade (as of September 1st)
- Clover Kids (K- 2nd graders) may participate in the dog care and training project, but are not allowed to compete.
