Find A Local ClubHow To Join - Texas 4-H Step image for enrolling. Step 2 Find A Local Club

Once you’ve connected with your local County Extension Office, the next step is to choose a 4-H club that matches your interests or location. A 4-H club is a group of at least five youth from three different families who meet regularly with adult volunteers or staff to participate in hands-on, educational experiences that grow over time.

Next, explore your options. Most counties list club contact information on their county 4-H website, making it easy to browse and find a club that feels like the right fit.

Finally, take action. When you find a club that interests you, reach out directly to learn more about their meeting schedule, focus areas, and eligibility requirements. Depending on the club, you may need to call, email, or attend a meeting in person to officially join and pay any applicable fees.

Choose A ProjectHow To Join - Texas 4-H Step image for enrolling. Step 3 - Choose A Project

First, understand the basics: In 4-H, a project is the hands-on activity you choose to explore. It’s your opportunity to learn by doing, supported by helpful resources, dedicated volunteers, and your local County Extension Office.

Next, discover the possibilities: Projects can include community service, leadership roles, and contests that connect to your chosen area of interest. These experiences help you grow skills that last a lifetime.

Finally, take the first step: All youth members must enroll in at least one project. Check out the full project list to find what excites you and start your 4-H journey today.  (Project List: English | Spanish)

Tips for choosing a project:

  • Select a project (or projects) you like.
  • Consider the money and time it will take. Can parents/guardians help?
  • Consider the space and equipment that you have at home.
  • A 4-H project should be fun, serve a purpose, and be worth the effort.
  • Select only the number of projects you can complete.
  • Contact your local county club to see which projects are already offered where you live.
