The 4-H dog project is an excellent way for young people to develop a love for animals, gain valuable skills, and contribute positively to their communities. It combines practical knowledge with hands-on experiences to promote personal growth and responsibility in youth participants.
You can do all sorts of activities, like:
- Foster dogs, therapy or guide dogs
- Competitions such as rally, agility, obedience, showmanship or conformation
- Dog Photography
- Dog career exploration
- Canine good citizenship testing

Texas 4-H Dog Show
The State 4-H Dog Show takes place every July and offers classes in agility, rally, obedience, costume, tricks, drill, showmanship, and conformation. Some counties also host their own 4-H Dog Shows. We will post details about these contests on this page and share updates by email as soon as they become available. At the annual State 4-H Dog Show, you can enter photos you’ve taken of your dog in the Dog Photography Contest. You submit photos in four categories: dog still life, active, storyboard, and theme. Visit the Dog Show Event webpage to learn more.
