What is the 4-H poultry project? Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks, and Geese are just a few examples of poultry. This project teaches members production and marketing by managing projects. Project topics include turkeys, egg production, and development from egg to chick. This project is a great way to learn about food sources and animal production, while making new friends!
You will experience the full process of selecting, feeding, and marketing poultry. You will also learn public speaking, leadership, and community service through caring for poultry.

Events and Activities
Poultry Judging
Poultry Judging applies classroom knowledge to evaluate production, processing, marketing and consumption of chickens, turkeys, processed products and eggs. Participants complete a written exam, solve a management problem, evaluate animals and products, as well as identify various poultry products. Visit the State Roundup webpage for contest information.
Livestock Shows
All major livestock shows and most county livestock shows offer market broiler shows and/or market turkey shows. You should be prepared to raise broilers for approximately six weeks, or turkeys for approximately 5 months. This is a great starter project for youth who want to get involved in livestock.
Poultry Ambassadors
The Texas 4-H Poultry Ambassador program strives to provide high school aged 4-H members the opportunity to develop and practice advanced leadership skills related to mentoring other youth, and to become advocates for the poultry industry. Visit the Texas 4-H Poultry Ambassadors website to learn more.
