Individuals or teams (consisting of up to five members) demonstrate their understanding of family life issues, including factors that influence human development, family relationships, and the overall quality of family life. Each year, competitive family life contests are held throughout the state. Contestants who win at the county and district levels qualify to compete in the annual 4-H Roundup Family Life Contest in College Station.

Community Service Ideas: 1. Assist professional staff conducting childhood immunization clinic.
2. Conduct a used toy drive for day care centers and local distribution.
3. Conduct for youth a workshop on children emergencies and first aid.
4. Adopt a friend program — work with children with disabilities.
5. Sponsor a story hour in the community for young children.
6. Volunteer to read to children at a Head Start center.
7. Sponsor a parent-teen seminar.
8. Help county Extension agent assemble packets of parenting information.
9. Promote safety in the home by informing families about storing medicine and harmful chemicals out of reach of children.
10. Sponsor a children’s book drive.
11. Assist elderly families with cleanup activities.
