COMPETITIVE EVENTS

Clothing Educational Activity

4-H members present illustrated talks or method demonstrations on any clothing or textile topic at Texas 4-H Roundup. Individuals or teams of two demonstrate poise, presentation skills, and knowledge in various areas of clothing and textiles. One entry per county may compete at district in each age division. Two senior entries per district are eligible to compete at state. Entry requires that a 4-H’er complete a clothing project, which may be in any area of clothing and textiles. Stamped and addressed thank you notes to the state contest donors are required at the state contest. Contestants should bring the notes when they check in to their state contest.

Design Competition

The Texas 4-H Fabric and Fashion Design Competition is for those interested in designing fabrics, apparel, or accessories. A 4-H member may submit a portfolio that meets the competition requirements in any of three categories: accessories, apparel, or textiles. Design participant interviews and portfolio judging will be during Texas 4-H Roundup. Winners’ designs in each category will be on display during Texas 4-H Roundup. Entry in the Design Competition requires that a 4-H’er complete a clothing project with an emphasis in design. Thank you notes to design contest donors are required for the state competition. Contestants are required to bring their stamped addressed notes to their competition interview.

Fashion Show

The Texas 4-H Fashion Show allows members to exhibit skills in clothing construction or comparison shopping, fashion interpretation, fiber and fabric identification, modeling, grooming, and garment/personal presentation at the county, district, and state levels. The Fashion Show has buying and construction divisions. At the state level there are four garment categories—casual, dressy, formal, specialty. Districts may send one senior winner in each category to the state competition. Each contestant must submit entry forms for the division entered. The Texas 4-H Fashion Show is held during Texas 4-H Roundup. Entry in the state Fashion Show requires that a 4-H’er complete a clothing project in either buying or construction. Fashion Show Narrator Contest

Narrating the Texas 4-H Fashion Show is for those 4-H’ers who enjoy public speaking. Four 4-H’ers will be selected through video taped competition and will then serve as narrators for the Texas 4-H Fashion Show Awards Program. Applicants are judged on poise and self-confidence, pronunciation and enunciation, voice clarity, and audience appeal. Applications and video requirements are available from your county Extension office or follow the link below.

Stage Design Contest

In an effort to increase awareness of clothing and textile related careers, the stage design contest was implemented. This contest will be for those 4-H’ers interested in stage decor and costuming. A district team of nine 4-H’ers and one adult leader will be selected to design, provide, and set up the stage decor for the State 4-H Fashion Show.

Contest qualifications, applications, judging criteria, and selection process are available from your county Extension office, or follow the link below.
