This contest is open to all 4-H members. Photographs must have been taken by the 4-H member during the current 4-H year. A county may have one entry per class in each category. A fee will be assessed per entry and must accompany the photo upon entry. Entries are due according to guidelines stated in the current year’s in-depth guidelines mailed in late summer. Details on the contest, guidelines, score sheet, Standards of Excellence and entry forms are mailed to county 4-H coordinators in January.

National 4-H Council needs winning photos from your state and county fairs (2002-2007) to create the 2009 4-H Calendar. The winning photos will be on display at the National 4-H Conference Center from September 2007 through November 2007 and also posted on our web site.
VERY IMPORTANT - Submissions will only be considered if they meet these criteria:
Full NAME and AGE of person submitting photograph.
Affiliation with 4-H.
Complete return address (for both UPS delivery and USPS First Class Mail).
Telephone number.
List of awards that each submitted photograph has received (county, state, 4-H or other) - If it has not received some prior award or recognition, it will not be considered.
The photographer’s thoughts about the photograph, in 25 words or less (include title of photograph).
Photo submissions should be 8”x10”, in color, and in a horizontal format. Vertical shots will be accepted only if they can be cropped to fit the horizontal format of the calendar. Black and white photos will not be considered for this full color calendar.
Please do not submit photos printed on a home printer, color photo copies, or low resolution digital prints. Have the print developed at a photo processing store.

National 4-H Council will return all submissions, if not selected, by late August 2007. Winning photographs will be returned no sooner than December 10, 2007. After final selection we will notify the winners and ask them for a signed release to use the photo in the 2009 4-H Calendar. Both the photographer and parent/guardian must sign the release. We will also request a second photo to be kept at the National 4-H Conference Center. |

| Community Service Ideas: |
1. Conduct a photographic survey of the community to focus on the strong and weak areas. Use the photos and/or slides for publicity, exhibits, and presentations for their enjoyment and appreciation and for support and necessary action to improve certain areas.
2. Take pictures of 4-H projects, events, and activities for use in 4-H member record books, newspaper articles, exhibits, promotion, and recognition.
3. Document citizenship and community service activities from the initial stages to completion.
4. Develop a slide/tape set in cooperation with the County Extension staff to give an overview of 4-H with emphasis on your county 4-H and youth program. This slide/tape set could be shown by agents, adult leaders, and/or 4-Hers to the county 4-H and youth committee and other county 4-H organizations, civic clubs, schools, church groups, other organizations, and the general public.
5. Provide photographic services to individuals and groups for special occasions.
6. Initiate a column with the newspaper editor and use photos taken by 4-Hers with appropriate captions and/or story.
7. Give method demonstrations and/or illustrated talks on different aspects of photography to young and old.
8. Coordinate picture-taking in the county with county and city officials, manager of the Chamber of Commerce, school officials, officers of organizations, etc.
9. Prepare photo exhibits for different occasions during the year.
10. Participate in photo contests in 4-H and open competition.
11. Involve senior citizens as resource persons or helpers.
12. Present slide programs and show picture albums in nursing homes. |
