4-H projects are the educational experiences that youth who are members of 4-H participate in. 4-H members can also participate in self-directed projects which are not listed as long as they meet the requirements for a project. Annual Texas 4-H Enrollment Project List


  • Beef Project – The beef project teaches the fundamentals of the beef cattle industry by allowing youth to explore the areas of animal husbandry, livestock selection, health, and care, in addition to the showing of beef cattle at local, county, state, and national cattle shows. More >>

  • Companion Animals Project – The companion animal project teaches about the selection and care of a companion animal; the maintenance and production of companion animals; the responsibilities of having a companion animal; the importance of keeping accurate records; and the importance of citizenship, sportsmanship and cooperation.   • Dairy Cattle Project – The dairy cattle project is a great way to learn more about the dairy industry and milk production, as well as animal nutrition, health and reproduction. Dairy project participants can demonstrate their knowledge and abilities through dairy cattle shows from the local to national level, in public speaking contests, and in dairy cattle judging.   • Dog Care Project – The dog care and training project teaches participants the care, training and production of dogs. The State 4-H Dog Show is part of the Dog Care Project and takes place every year in July.   More >>

  • Goats – Dairy Project – The dairy goats project teaches participants about the production of milk, cheeses and other quality products targeted for niche markets. The project involves raising animals and learning about showmanship, judging, sportsmanship and leadership. More >>

  • Goats – Hair Project – The hair goats project involves raising and caring for animals. Youth learn animal health, nutrition, breeding, selection and marketing, youth may also participate in mohair judging contests. The 4-H goat project offers outstanding opportunities for individuals to gain experience in decision making, record keeping, responsibility, sportsmanship and leadership. More >>

  • Goats – Meat Project – The meat goats project involves raising and caring for live animals while learning about animal health, nutrition, breeding, selection, and marketing.   • Horse Project - The horse project offers activities in horsemanship, horse development and training. The State 4-H Horse Show is part of the Horse Project and takes place every July. More >>

  • Poultry Project – The poultry project teaches members poultry production and marketing by managing poultry projects. Project topics include broilers, capons, turkeys, egg production, and development from egg to chick. More >>

  • Rabbits Project – The rabbit project teaches proper methods of caring for, raising, breeding and marketing rabbits. There are three project options: Market Rabbit Project (breeding and raising rabbits for meat); Rabbit Breeding Project (breeding and raising rabbits for desired or unique characteristics); and Pet Project (maintaining rabbits for companionship).   • Sheep Project - The sheep project teaches youth to care for live animals while learning about animal health and nutrition, breeding, selection and marketing. in the 4-H sheep project individuals learn decision making, record keeping, responsibility, sportsmanship and leadership. they may participate in market projects, breeding projects and non-competitive projects.   • Swine Project – The swine project teaches participants proper methods of selecting, feeding, raising, breeding and marketing swine. Either market or breeding animals can be raised. More >>

  • Veterinary Science Project – The veterinary science project deals with techniques and procedures involved in caring for animals. It includes learning how veterinarians are most effective. More >>

Science of Agriculture

Approximately 500,000 kids participate in Ag and Natural Resource Awareness activities each year through Texas 4-H. With this in mind, this site has been developed to assist county Extension agents and volunteers in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their programs. We will continue to update these pages as we receive information that will enhance these programs.
