LESSON PLANS

County agents, community partners and volunteers often need lesson plans that can be used for training other groups or adapted for community presentations for Commissioner's Court or groups such as Kiwanis, Junior League or Parent Teacher Associations.

The lesson plans listed below are developed for 1.5 hour presentations and are designed for older youth and adult audiences. Trainers can adapt the lessons for either shorter or longer presentations as needed.

TEXAS ACTIVITIES

Agents across Texas are developing and adapting activities to meet the needs of individuals and groups involved in their Texans Building Character programs. The Texas Agricultural Extension Service (TAEX) requests that any person who accesses activities from this page give proper reference to the source of the activity whether it is TAEX or another source.

Materials included on this site have been divided by age rather than by one of the eight Texans Building Character program models. Where possible, we will also provide information that will help the user determine if the activity is appropriate for specific audiences such as youth at risk groups.

CHARACTER EDUCATION WEB RESOURCES

Texans Building Character
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service has delegated Initiative funding from the legislature to build a character education program that provides training to agents and volunteers across Texas counties. This 16 hour training provides background on the character pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS!sm plus training on eight program models: school, 4-H, at-risk youth, workforce preparation, business, sports, community, and megacommunity. Contact your local county Extension agent for more information on this training.

Character Counts
The purpose of the CHARACTER COUNTS!sm Coalition is to fortify the lives of America’s young people with consensus ethical values called the “Six Pillars of Character.” These values, which transcend divisions of race, creed, politics, gender and wealth, are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Character Education Partnership
The Character Education Partnership (CEP) is a nonpartisan coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to developing moral character and civic virtue in our nation's youth as one means of creating a more compassionate and responsible society.

Learning For Life
Learning for Live programs are designed to support schools and other youth serving organizations. These programs help today's society handle the rough roads we must sometimes travel. Learning for life helps develop social skills and assists with character development.

Prevention Yellow Pages
This website offers a worldwide directory of programs, research, references and resources dedicated to the prevention of youth problems and the promotion of nurturing children. The website is sponsored by the Texas Youth Commission.

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans

Horatio Alger Scholars have faced challenges and realize that a college education is the avenue to a better future. The Association also provides its scholarship recipients with financial aid counseling, and internship and job placement assistance.
