Diversity is an area of focus for the Texas 4-H program.

Diversity is the differences that exist among people. It is also an attitude - the attitude that we have toward others based upon the differences that exist among us.

Cooperative Extension gives a working definition to diversity, which is, "differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and other human differences.

Involvement of all youth is vital to the 4-H and Youth Development Program’s overall mission, values, and vision. 4-H programs must be open, secure, and supportive.

Texas 4-H has a goal that the youth and volunteers of the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program will be be representative of all the people of Texas. Diversity is much more than skin color, cultures, social structures, ethnic lifestyles, norms, history and language.

An ongoing pursuit to create an environment where all youth and adults feel valued and welcomed is part of the base of Texas 4-H.
